I found out that here in Florida, there are 7 police / sheriff departments that teach advanced riding skills for civilians.

These courses are called Safe Motorcycle and Rider Techniques. I attended the one in Collier County put on by the Collier County Sheriff’s Motorcycle Division. They are at no cost to you. You just need to sign up for a date that they are offering the training. The classes are limited, and you should sign up well in advance.

Skills You Will Be Amazed To Learn

The course I attended was 2 days and was very intense. You will learn skills that you did not think you could do on a bike. The instructors were current motorcycle cops, and they will push you to take the bike beyond your perceived comfort level. It is amazing what you can do on a bike once you know the proper technique. You will learn about making tight U-turns and responding to dangerous automobile driver’s strange maneuvers safely.

We all can use some improved skills on a bike. It does not matter if you are an older biker with many years behind you, or a relatively new rider that wants to get better. I am sure they have this type of training course across the USA. There are seven locations in Florida, look them up and get into one. You will improve your riding skills, which leads to a safer and more enjoyable day on the bike.
